Senior Hilary Lindell is known around the school and golf course as a mellow and collected girl with a great sense of humor. At first, she can seem quiet and shy, but her friends know better.
“She’s a great friend; she’s always there for people when they need her,” said senior Kristy Nelson. Lindell loves hanging out with good friends and this, along with knowing everyone in the high school, is what she will miss most. “We laugh about probably the dumbest stuff, but we always have a good time,” Lindell said.
Lindell was the only girl on the varsity team, where she had a lot of individual success, according to Varsity Golf Coach Larry Martoglio. At State, Lindell ranked 12, and was only two strokes short of making all-state. Lindell is very dedicated; Martoglio said “[She] spent a lot of time on the course preparing herself [for the coming season].”
Though she was the only girl going out for varsity, Lindell has a great attitude on the course, and won the Sportsmanship Award for her positive outlook, regardless of how she was doing on the course. Lindell won the Big Horn/Tongue River tournament and placed in the top ten at the two day Buffalo Invitational and the Cody/Powell Invitational, saying of the sport ,“It’s just something I enjoy and like to do.” As a junior, Lindell made all-conference, and hopes on repeating the feat this coming spring.
She has really enjoyed being on the golf team since freshman year, though she misses the seniors from past years.
Golf is a family event for Lindell, who has been playing it since she was a little girl. “Golf is just a big thing in our family,” said Lindell. Her brother helps improve her game on the golf course.”Hilary is always trying to better every aspect of her game and is a well driven individual,” said her older brother Cameron Lindell. “She has a bright and successful future ahead of her.”
“I enjoy being on a team,” said Lindell, “We always had a lot of fun together.” She finds it motivating to be on a team, but she also enjoys the individual aspects of the sport.
Lindell plans on attending Casper College after her graduation in the spring. She is still unsure of what she would like to study, but she is considering business and retail management. “She really likes to shop,” laughed Nelson.
Lindell has been interested in fashion since the start of high school. She said her favorite items to shop for are “feminine pieces [and] classy pieces” like lace and sequins. Her mother, Dawn Lindell, has also influenced Lindell’s fashion with her trend setting looks. After college, Lindell would like to live somewhere beyond Wyoming, although she knows that she will really miss her friends.
While Lindell admits that she is shy at first, she says that this isn’t the case at all after getting to know her. With her great fashion in school and on the golf course, there’s no doubt that Lindell has an amazing future ahead of her. Even with graduation still months aways, Lindell said she is excited for the future and “the start of a different journey and new goals.”
