Senior Georgia Gould has spent the last four years at Sheridan High School immersing herself in the high school experience and spreading positivity everywhere she goes. Gould continuously aims for excellence in academics and challenges herself with a difficult curriculum. On top of her rigorous schedule, Gould still prioritizes athletics, various hobbies and clubs.
Gould was born in Denver, Colo. but moved to Sheridan at a young age. Aside from her brother Jackson Gould, who attends college in Denver, she does not have much other family there. Gould is exceptionally close with her family, and was blessed with parents who are heavily involved in her life. She holds a high regard for them, as they continuously show up and assist in her sporting endeavors.
Playing the guitar, reading books and going on runs are a few of the main hobbies Gould partakes in. She began playing the guitar in the fifth grade and continues to practice in her free time. While she does not see her musical career going any further, she plans on playing for fun in the future. In addition to music, Gould is heavily involved in athletics. During middle school, she ran cross country but later decided to keep running as a leisurely activity. She thoroughly enjoys playing hockey and has since she was 4 years old. She has played center backup goalie from ages 10 to 13 for the Sheridan Hawks hockey team.
As well as hockey, Gould began playing fall tennis her freshman year. She had played on and off since she was younger but was looking to be a part of an actual team. Aside from the sport itself, she enjoys the community greatly. Throughout her senior season, she was able to create strong bonds and relationships with her teammates. “It more so felt like a family as opposed to a team,” said Gould. During tennis season, Gould served as an athletic and moral addition to the team, always cheering her teammates on. Her tenacity paid off when she received the “Most Improved Player” award in her junior and senior years. In the 2023 season, they won third place at regionals, first place at state, and she won All-State as well. Although sports have played a huge role in Gould’s life, she is not looking to play competitive sports in college.
Extracurricular activities also fill up Gould’s schedule heavily. Gould is the executive president of the SHS student council. Although she never saw herself wanting to be in a major position during her early high school years, she has developed a great interest for the student council. “I grew a passion for helping out around the school, and it felt really important to me that kids actually see a purpose in going to school,” said Gould. Not only is she involved in SHS’s student council program, but she also challenged herself by running for state Student Council president in her junior year. Gould is also a part of the National Honor Society chapter at SHS, and was even assigned the service pillar. She recognizes the importance of helping out in one’s community and has a great desire to give attention to those who need it. She has found this club is just another way to volunteer and involve herself in the community. Another way she has found to help in the community is through Interact Club. The club is designed to help students with volunteering, which Gould has found to be extremely fulfilling.
Currently, Gould is in the process of starting a new club centered around the environment, called “SHS Sustainability Club.” She has tackled this challenge with fellow seniors Addie Pendergast, Jada Berry and May Lawson, and they hope to “Create more desire to keep the school clean,” said Gould. They have already drafted a proposal, and hope to have things situated by December. Gould has always been interested in environmental science and creating a cleaner planet. Growing up in Sheridan and being surrounded by nature played a big role in her inspiration for helping the environment.
After exploring plenty of career options, Gould’s plans are still up in the air; however, she fully intends on studying biology in college. Ever since she was little, the study of life has been fascinating to her. Gould has applied to eight schools but is most interested in Notre Dame. Her schedule currently consists of AP Biology, AP Calculus, an internship at the dermatologist’s office, Nutrition, Economics. Her junior year was full of difficult classes and required intense focus. This year she wanted to maintain a certain level of intensity while also enjoying her senior year with friends.
As Gould finishes out her senior year and embarks on an exciting journey, she will focus on living in the present moment and making the most of everything. SHS will be losing an outstanding and extraordinary student, athlete and overall person this year.
