On any given day, students can see senior Cutter Hulet working hard to make the student experience something to remember at Sheridan High School. Hulet serves as the president of the student council, one of many ways he shows dedication to the school and students.
Hulet was born and raised in Buffalo, Wyo. until he moved to Sheridan in the 8th grade. He has a big family, including three siblings and three step-siblings. Hulet enjoys being able to spend time with his family and finds great meaning in the memories he makes with them.
After arriving in Sheridan, he quickly involved himself in the school community, becoming a member of the Student Council and the National Honor Society. Hulet is currently student body president for SHS’s student council and the Student Council Northeastern Representative for the State of Wyo. Hulet has been a member of the council since his freshman year. He has taken part in planning various events and connects among his peers by being a good leader and friend. Hulet’s determination and hard work have not gone unnoticed by his teachers. “He’s not going to boss anyone around, but he leads by example,” said Gretchen McCafferty, who oversees the Student Council and teaches at SHS.
Equally passionate about academics, Hulet maintains a high GPA while balancing his responsibilities in sports and student organizations. His achievements in the NHS are proof of educational excellence. NHS not only recognizes students for their academic accomplishments but also for their commitment and leadership, qualities that Hulet embodies.
Hulet has left a very positive impression on his peers and friends. “Cutter’s personality and work ethic are admirable, and I think that they make anyone want to be better,” said senior Garrett Mangus. “He’s super funny, friendly, and dedicated. His ability to commit is something that I look up to.” Mangus and Hulet have been close friends since their freshman year. Hulet’s friends have helped him in his academic and personal life. He knows how important his friends are to him and recognizes how much they have helped him.
Since this is Hulet’s final year at SHS, he has lots of amazing experiences and has learned so much from his teachers and peers. He recognizes how lucky he is to have been able to have so many opportunities during high school. Hulet’s favorite thing about Sheridan High School is the connections he has created and the life-long friends he has made.
Things haven’t always been easy for Hulet. He has had to face trials in his life but has let them shape him into a better person. When Hulet was six years old, he had to experience the divorce of his parents. Although this was hard for him, Hulet learned about the importance of being kind to everyone. Another trial Hulet had to face was when his grandma, Heidi, had to stay in the hospital. This helped him to realize that he should cherish every moment in his life, especially moments with the people he loves and cares about.
Hulet is driven to success by his future. He has a strong work ethic and is ambitious about his life after high school. He wants to go to pre-med school at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. His ambition doesn’t stop there; he plans to attend medical school afterward to become a surgeon. “I feel like my work drives a lot of my success,” Hulet said. “I believe that you know a lot of people who don’t have a strong work ethic anymore, and it’s something that we should take seriously.”
Outside of high school, Hulet enjoys playing soccer and spending time outdoors. Whether it’s hunting, fishing, or skiing, he feels most alive when surrounded by nature. Hulet is grateful to live in Wyoming.
Overall, Sheridan High School has been blessed to have Hulet. His high school years are just the beginning of his path to success. Hulet is eagerly looking ahead to the next chapter of his life. His dedication to academics, extracurricular activities, and love for the outdoors make him not just a well-rounded student but also a remarkable individual.
Hulet is the son of Joe Hulet and Katie Barker.
