On Feb. 26, the Sheridan Police Department will begin teaching one class a week, for twelve weeks, called the Citizen’s Police Academy, which will be held at the Sheridan Police Department.
According to Resource officer Dan White, these classes will provide its ‘cadets’ with three hours per session of information on topics surrounding the police, including School Resource Officers, Canine Units, drug awareness, firearms, criminal investigations, and many more. The program is looking to not only clear up misconceptions and answer the questions any citizen may have about the police department, but allow them to understand the in’s and out’s of being a police officer in Sheridan.
Those looking to participate must fill out and submit an application, which can be found on Sheridan’s website under the Police Department, and have it turned in before the first meeting on Feb 26. Those looking for more information can contact Sgt. Travis Koltiska or Sgt. Tom Ringly.
