As state approaches quickly, the meet being this Saturday, Oct. 20, the team is preparing to do their best.
“The team is coming on strong” said senior Kyle Dietsch. Last week the team went to Laramie to compete after having a week off. There are two conferences in the state and Sheridan always participates in the East conference. The top ten who place in the conference meet all conference requirements. The boys team had two qualifiers with Michael Rotellini taking fourth and Taylor Bruso placing tenth. Dietsche was right behind both runners by placing eleventh and having a good race.
Laramie can sometimes be a difficult place for Sheridan to race because of the change of elevation and the fact that the drive down to Laramie takes up to five hours. Having a runner on a bus for a long time is not ideal and this can oftentimes hurt a team when they go to a meet. The Sheridan cross country team did a very good job with dealing with the distractions though by both the girls and the boys having a good meet. The girls team did an excellent job by running together as a team and was in the race the whole way with the opportunity to move up at the end. The boys team also did well, “ Our goal is to place in the top three at state” said Dietsche. With the team continuing to run the way it is, it is very likely that the boys will have an opportunity to accomplish their goal, but will have to do well in order to outrun Kelly Walsh, Laramie, Cheyenne East, and Rock Springs for a top five finish.
