The Lady Bronc swim team is on the final stretch of their season with conference just ending on Friday Oct. 12 in Riverton. The team feels that they are in a good spot with nine girls already pre-qualified for state before conference with another two making the cut in the tournament. Out of the eleven girls going to state, two are from the diving team, which only has three girls in total.
This year the squad is a particularly young one with only one senior out of the 24 swimmers. “The girls we have are really talented, we have a really good group of young girls,” said Head Coach Brent Moore, when asked about the teams success this year. The team feels they have improved from last year and have good leadership to thank for that. “The team is doing really well, better than last year, we have a pretty strong junior class who are upperclassmen now so we have strong leadership,” said junior Gretchen Dougherty. With such a large team it helps that they all work well together. “We have more girls this year so we are more cohesive, we support each other even in stressful situations,” said sophomore Alex Van Vilet.
The state tournament will be held in Gillette on Oct. 25 through the 26. With almost half of the team qualified for state, the team is sitting in a good spot to do well to end their season. A list of the girls qualified for state can be found below:
