The boys last played three home games. They lost to Gillette 1-0 last Friday April 12th. The Broncs defeated number one ranked team, Cheyenne East 1-0 as Lucas Wollenman scored a penalty kick in the last four minutes of the game on Friday April 5th. Unfortunately they lost to Cheyenne Central Saturday April 6th, 1-2.
Over spring break the Broncs competed in the annual match against Buffalo, ending in a 1-1 tie Mar. 28 in Buffalo. “. . . reality is Buffalo is the best 3A team year in and year out. . .we found out where we sit as a team. The game showed what we did right and what we need to get better at” said head coach Kevin Rizer.
The Broncs played Cheyenne South beating them 7-0 March 22. They lost to Laramie 3-0 in Laramie March 23. “Laramie is always a quality team and a good chance to measure our team. . .we figured out what we need to work on” said Rizer.
The boys have been trying to retaliate from last year’s experienced team to this year’s younger team. “With the loss of nine seniors (and overall 13 seniors), this year’s team is young but have decent experience” says head coach Kevin Rizer, “in the long run we will be pretty dang good.”
Defensively, the boys are strong, but with time and maturity they are expected to be a good all-around team. “They have not seen a ton of starting time, but that will come around and with time,” says Rizer.
With SHS soccer season approaching the halfway mark, the boys play Gillette at the Homer Scott field this Friday hoping for a win to gain points for conference ranking.
The Broncs aim to finish first or second in conference and a chance to play for the state title. This year’s state match will be held in Rock Springs, May 16-18.
