Broncs win again with Cheyenne East upcoming

Overcoming a slow start and raining weather, the fourth ranked Sheridan Broncs football team still managed a 35-14 win on the road against Evanston last Friday night to remain perfect this season, three games into the year.

With a huge game looming against top ranked Cheyenne East upcoming, the Broncs took care of business against a weaker Evanston team after falling behind early but overcoming the conditions, long ride, and turnovers.

“We overcame adversity well and the special teams played well, got us fired up,” said senior Tyler Kaufmann about the performance.

The game started off with a fumble from senior Daniel Sessions. The Red Devils capitalized with a touchdown. Sessions made up for the error by scoring two consecutive scores, giving the Broncs a lead. Before halftime senior Kameron Eckard found junior Joseph Shassetz to boost the lead to 21-7.

After the break Evanston scored to close the gap, but junior Colbey Bruney ran the ball from 20 yards out for another touchdown. In the fourth quarter sophomore Evan Coon added the final score on a rushing play, the game finished 35-14.

Cheyenne East is next on the schedule for Sheridan. Lead by quarterback Tevis Bartlett, who leads the 4A in all-purpose offensive, East hasn’t dropped a game and has already beaten defending champion Natrona.

Sheridan has been working on limiting mistakes, both offensively and defensively according to Kaufmann. “We have to try to take their playmakers away,” said Eckard.

The game is scheduled for Friday, at an earlier start time of 6 p.m. at Homer Scott Field.
