Cross country races to the finish
The Sheridan High School Cross Country Team has started the season off with a bang.
Although young, the team is full of optimism. Out of 40 kids out for the season, only nine of them are juniors and seniors. Coach Art Baures is very positive about this years talent. “The cool thing about it is that they’re learning and they’re getting better every week,” Baures said, “everyone is successful now.”
Leading the pack for the Broncs is junior Taylor Bruso. Bruso, now in his third year as a Varsity runner, has been a force to contend with for a number of years. Bruso said, “What’s great about our youth is they’ve embraced the training really well, they are very excited to get better.” As for the coaching. “Coach Bauers is super cool,” Bruso says, “I have the upmost respect for his methods.”
The Sheridan Cross Country Team just finished a meet this past Thursday in Custer. On the girls side, sophomore Janika Sweeney led the way and was able to be consistent in her pacing. She was able to get in a good running group and stay on pace with them. She ended up placing 16th, with Zoe Robinson following her at 26th and Megan Culver at 36th. On the boys side, Taylor Bruso made his way to the front of the race early in the contest, with a finish in second. Following Bruso was Micah Sweeney at 12th and Taylor Wendtland at 15th.
