Broncs crush Central 47-7 en route to Natrona matchup
The SHS football rebounded from their first loss of the year to defeat the Cheyenne Central Indians 47-7 last Friday night in Cheyenne. Four scores from senior Daniel Sessions and a stingy defense helped propel the second ranked Broncs to 6-1, with Natrona County next up.
The Broncs opened with short pass from senior Kameron Eckard to Sessions, later the combination hooked up for another score. Junior Colbey Bruney got in on the action with a rushing touchdown to wrap up the first half at 19-0. The Broncs had one missed extra point and a failed two point conversion.
In the second half, Sessions scored twice again. Also getting into the scoring for the Broncs was sophomore Evan Coon, and junior Tom Fenn scored his first touchdown of the season. By the end of the game, up 47-0, with junior varsity on the field in the midst of a blowout, Central scored their only score of the game.
“We played hard all game and played a lot more physical than against Gillette,” said Eckard. “It was a good offensive and defensive performance, but now we are looking ahead to Natrona.”
The Natrona County Mustangs were the state champions last year and are 4-3 this year. Ranked fifth, the Mustangs will be a tough test for the Broncs as they look to lock up the second seed for the playoffs.
This Friday’s game is the pink Bronc day, and fans are encouraged to wear pink gear to support breast cancer awareness and research. It is also military awareness night.
