Girls swim team places third at state
The Sheridan Lady Bronc swim team had a great end to their season as a whole. The team placed third overall at state, behind only Gillette and Cheyenne East. The 200 medley relay which consisted of senior Emily Spiegelberg, senior Gretchen Dougherty, sophomore Mackenzie Dougherty, and senior Payton Brilz, placed first in the state and broke the SHS school record with a time of 1:51.36 seconds.
“I think we wanted it more than before and we had stronger team so we were able to get up there” said junior Cassandra Robinson. “I think that Emily and Gretchen did like both improved a lot and Emily won the backstroke” said Mackenzie Dougherty. Spiegelberg ended up breaking the 100 meter backstroke SHS record with a time of 58.72.
Brilz, Dougherty, Fosnight, Spiegelberg and Stevens are the seniors that will be leaving the SHS Lady Bronc swim team. Dougherty broke the 100 meter Breaststroke SHS record with a time of 1:20.06 at conference. “We’re losing a lot of really good ones but we have a lot of great girls coming in and hopefully we just build on it,” said coach Brent Moore.
Moore was named 4A Coach of the year and Jory Yurk the assistant coach was named 4A Assistant Coach of the year. All in all, the SHS Lady Bronc swim team had a great year and is looking forward to the years to come. “Swim amazing because you are amazing,” senior Laurel Fosnight in conclusion, the team’s motto this season.
